The Boxer

The Boxer - Simon and Garfunkel

I am just a poor boy.
Though my story's seldom told,
I have squandered my resistance
For a pocketful of mumbles,
Such are promises
All lies and jest
Still, a man hears what he wants to hear
And disregards the rest.

When I left my home
And my family,
I was no more than a boy
In the company of strangers
In the quiet of the railway station,
Running scared,
Laying low,
Seeking out the poorer quarters
Where the ragged people go,
Looking for the places
Only they would know.

Lie-la-lie.....

Asking only workman's wages
I come looking for a job,
But I get no offers.
Just a come-on from the whores
On Seventh Avenue
I do declare,
There were times when I was so lonesome
I took some comfort there
La La La.

Now the years are rolling by me,
they are rockin' even me
I am older than I once was,
and younger than I'll be,
that's not unusual
No it isn't strange,
after changes upon changes,
we are more or less the same
After changes, we are more or less the same ...

Lie-la-lie.....

Then I'm laying out my winter clothes
And wishing I was gone
Going home
Where the New York City winters
Aren't bleeding me,
Leading me,
Going home.

In the clearing stands a boxer,
And a fighter by his trade
And he carries the reminders
Of ev'ry glove that laid him down
Or cut him till he cried out
In his anger and his shame,
"I am leaving, I am leaving."
But the fighter still remains

Lie-la-lie.....

THEY BOTH WON!

IF

If

-Rudyard Kipling

If you can keep your head when all about you
Are losing theirs and blaming it on you;
If you can trust yourself when all men doubt you,
But make allowance for their doubting too;
If you can wait and not be tired by waiting,
Or, being lied about, don't deal in lies,
Or, being hated, don't give way to hating,
And yet don't look too good, nor talk too wise;

If you can dream - and not make dreams your master;
If you can think - and not make thoughts your aim;
If you can meet with triumph and disaster
And treat those two imposters just the same;
If you can bear to hear the truth you've spoken
Twisted by knaves to make a trap for fools,
Or watch the things you gave your life to broken,
And stoop and build 'em up with wornout tools;

If you can make one heap of all your winnings
And risk it on one turn of pitch-and-toss,
And lose, and start again at your beginnings
And never breath a word about your loss;
If you can force your heart and nerve and sinew
To serve your turn long after they are gone,
And so hold on when there is nothing in you
Except the Will which says to them: "Hold on";

If you can talk with crowds and keep your virtue,
Or walk with kings - nor lose the common touch;
If neither foes nor loving friends can hurt you;
If all men count with you, but none too much;
If you can fill the unforgiving minute
With sixty seconds' worth of distance run -
Yours is the Earth and everything that's in it,
And - which is more - you'll be a Man my son!

to make you think . .

a modern day poet

Music is the way to the soul, poetry for the 21st century. Nothing can capture your mood quite like the smooth tones, electric beats and easy tunes that over 50 years of mainstream lyrical music can offer. Whatever is happening, what ever mood you you're in, no matter how crap your day has been (or good for that matter) - you can ALWAYS find something that makes everything alright.

And if you really listen to the lyrics of a song, you'll often be surprised at what you find.

Chasing Cars - Snow Patrol.

We'll do it all
Everything
On our own

We don't need
Anything
Or anyone

If I lay here
If I just lay here
Would you lie with me and just forget the world?

I don't quite know
How to say
How I feel

Those three words
Are said too much
They're not enough

If I lay here
If I just lay here
Would you lie with me and just forget the world?

Forget what we're told
Before we get too old
Show me a garden that's bursting into life

Let's waste time
Chasing cars
Around our heads

I need your grace
To remind me
To find my own

If I lay here
If I just lay here
Would you lie with me and just forget the world?

Forget what we're told
Before we get too old
Show me a garden that's bursting into life

All that I am
All that I ever was
Is here in your perfect eyes, they're all I can see

I don't know where
Confused about how as well
Just know that these things will never change for us at all

If I lay here
If I just lay here
Would you lie with me and just forget the world?

love it.

idol much.

Lee, whose official backstory focused more on his adventures in home-improvement retail than on his considerable recording chops – seemed needful of (or at least open to) guidance. Is it any surprise that he’s the judges’ favorite, even cast by Simon in the role of conquering archangel when the judge granted him the right to sing "Idol’s" favorite hymn, “Hallelujah”? Lee, accepting "Idol" as his savior from obscurity, has become the show’s own salvation. And the faithful have flocked to him. His ascent will likely prove permanent.

B. Button

Some people, were born to sit by a river. Some get struck by lightning. Some have an ear for music. Some are artists. Some swim. Some know buttons. Some know Shakespeare. Some are mothers. And some people, dance.

We're meant to lose the people we love. How else would we know how important they are to us?

Our lives are defined by opportunities, even the ones we miss.

wishing

Sometimes in life there are moments when everything just falls down, where those barriers, those strong walls, just coming crashing down around you and you are left raw and exposed, yet feeling so alone. It is in these times when one beings to question everything - what am I doing here? is this really what I want? why is everything just so hard?

Lonliness is a terrible thing. I'm generally someone who doesn't really get lonely - I like having my alone time, but am never really lonely. I think though, that when you start putting up barriers around you - creating invisible lines that you don't know are there until you see the gaps starting to form - that you really feel like you are alone in the world. Looking at it this quote is so true:

I think though, when you realise that there is no one who wants to break them down, it when you really get disheartened. When you realise that all that time you spent listen to people talk about their big issues - there love lives, their parents, their issues with this that and everything else - and they can't even take a few minutes out of their lives to ask how you are, is when things go a little pear shaped.

Now I really am not someone who likes to always be the center of attention - in fact generally i'm the one who gets angry at that person - and at the moment its sounding like all I want is everyones attention. But to be perfectly honest I never realised how entirely terrible it feels when it seems like your going at this thing alone.

So now I have a renewed understanding for all you people out there who can't cope anymore and who struggle through life - because even though only for a little while, I think I can now understand a lot more of what it really feels like to be so down you just feel like giving up.

So. When you have a friend who is generally very happy-go-lucky and smiley and just happy to be alive all the time - make sure you make sure they're okay. I'm pretty sure that is the hardest place to be - cause when your down no one sees any need to help pick you back up.

Sing for the Moment

We're nothin' to you but we're the fuckin' shit in they eyes
That's why we seize the moment try to freeze it and own it, squeeze it and
hold it
Cause we consider these minutes golden
And maybe they'll admit it when we're gone
Just let our spirits live on, through our lyrics that you hear in our
songs and we can...

Sing for the Moment - Eminem.

Robert.

Just watched Twilight again. Reminded of how fucking beautiful Robert Pattinson is. Wouldn't say no.

Once.

Falling Slowly Glen Hansard and Marketa Irglova

I don't know you, but I want you
All the more for that.
Words fall through me and always fool me
And I can't react.
And games that never amount
To more than they're meant
Will play themselves out

Take this sinking boat and point it home
We've still got time
Raise your hopeful voice you have a choice
You've made it now

Falling slowly, eyes that know me
And I can't go back.
Moods that take me and erase me
And I'm painted black
You have suffered enough
And warred with yourself
It's time that you won

Take this sinking boat and point it home
We've still got time
Raise your hopeful voice you had a choice
You've made it now

Take this sinking boat and point it home
We've still got time
Raise your hopeful voice you had a choice
You've made it now
Falling slowly sing your melody
I'll sing along

Recently covered by Lee Dewyze and Crystal Bowersox on American Idol, this stunning Oscar-Award Winning song from the Indie film 'Once' was again brought into my memory. Such a beautiful song from a pretty awesome film.

I do have to say that the Lee and Crystal rendition was electric and the chemistry they brought to it was AWESOME! <3

Soundtrack to Life.

You Make My Dreams (1980) - Hall and Oates

What I want, you've got
And it might be hard to handle
But like the flame that burns the candle
The candle feeds the flame
What I've gots full stock of thoughts and dreams that scatter
You pull them all together
And how, I can't explain
But you make my dreams come true
On a night when bad dreams become a screamer
When they're messin' with the dreamer
I can laugh it in the face
Twist and shout my way out
And wrape yourself around me
'cause I ain't the way that you found me
I'll never be the same
'cause you may my dreams come true
I'm down on the daydream
That sleepwalk should be over by now
I know that you make my dreams come true

This song was featured in the film '(500) Days of Summer'.

SUCH an uplifting song, just makes you feel happy about life and everything around you! LOVE IT.

My Favourite Beatles Song

''All My Loving''

Close your eyes and I'll kiss you
Tomorrow I'll miss you
Remember I'll always be true

And then while I'm away
I'll write home every day
And I'll send all my loving to you

I'll pretend that I'm kissing
The lips I am missing
And hope that my dreams will come true

And then while I'm away
I'll write home every day
And I'll send all my loving to you

All my loving, I will send to you
All my loving, darling I'll be true

Close your eyes and I'll kiss you
Tomorrow I'll miss you
Remember I'll always be true

And then while I'm away
I'll write home every day
And I'll send all my loving to you

All my loving, I will send to you
All my loving, darling I'll be true
All my loving, all my loving
Ooh, all my loving, I will send to you

this will be a classic one day. full of inspiration.

For what it's worth: it's never too late or, in my case, too early to be whoever you want to be. There's no time limit, start whenever you want. You can change or stay the same, there are no rules to this thing. We can make the best or the worst of it. I hope you make the best of it. I hope you see things that startle you. I hope you feel things you never felt before. I hope you meet people who have a different point of view. I hope you live a life you're proud of, and if you find that you're not, I hope you have the strength to start all over again.

CHEERS

Making your way in the world today takes everything you've got.
Taking a break from all your worries, sure would help a lot.

Wouldn't you like to get away?

Sometimes you want to go

Where everybody knows your name,
and they're always glad you came.
You wanna be where you can see,
our troubles are all the same
You wanna be where everybody knows
Your name.

You wanna go where people know,
people are all the same,
You wanna go where everybody knows
your name.

This is the theme from the old TV programme 'Cheers'. It is currently being used to celebrate TVNZs 50th birthday. I LOVE the lyrics though. I find them current and relateable. YAY for 'where everybody knows your name'.

NEW ZEALAND a snapshot.

What a place to live. Beautiful. Lush. Home.

Hey You.

Hey you, out there in the cold
Getting lonely, getting old
Can you feel me?
Hey you, standing in the aisles
With itchy feet and fading smiles
Can you feel me?
Hey you, dont help them to bury the light
Don't give in without a fight.

Hey you, out there on your own
Sitting naked by the phone
Would you touch me?
Hey you, with you ear against the wall
Waiting for someone to call out
Would you touch me?
Hey you, would you help me to carry the stone?
Open your heart, I'm coming home.

But it was only fantasy.
The wall was too high,
As you can see.
No matter how he tried,
He could not break free.
And the worms ate into his brain.

Hey you, standing in the road
always doing what you're told,
Can you help me?
Hey you, out there beyond the wall,
Breaking bottles in the hall,
Can you help me?
Hey you, don't tell me there's no hope at all
Together we stand, divided we fall.

~Hey You. {The Wall (1979), Pink Floyd}~

History WILL never repeat.

A Quote.

This is one of my favorite quotes. Not too flashy, emotive or dramatic. Simple words that make a whole lot of sense. A bit of a life mantra.

another day . . another issue.

Sometimes I wonder why I do it, why I put up with all the crap that people give me. I hate people pack an absolute sad for no reason other than the fact that they didn't get their own way! We aren't five and mummy and daddy aren't here to do everything for you now. When asking a simple, innocent question and getting snapped at like there is no tomorrow is potentially not the funnest thing after a long hard week. Sure, we are all tired, but what gives you any right to take it out on everyone else.

Sometimes I just wish that people would grow up. And stop being so damn pathetic.

The above rage was from about two hours ago. Since then I have been baking. Baking always calms me down. Some nice alone time! Peach and Cinnamon muffins . . YUM! Also I watch idol and a comedy gala which was all very good.

Just shows how your mood can change huh?

I also got the most fantastic news about a close relative who is over their very serious illness, so all in all it has ended up a good night.

At the moment we LOVE . .

The most talented Regina Spektor and her BEAUTIFUL album - 'Far'

'Laughing With'
No one laughs at God in a hospital
No one laughs at God in a war
No one’s laughing at God
When they’re starving or freezing or so very poor

No one laughs at God
When the doctor calls after some routine tests
No one’s laughing at God
When it’s gotten real late
And their kid’s not back from the party yet

No one laughs at God
When their airplane start to uncontrollably shake
No one’s laughing at God
When they see the one they love, hand in hand with someone else
And they hope that they’re mistaken

No one laughs at God
When the cops knock on their door
And they say we got some bad news, sir
No one’s laughing at God
When there’s a famine or fire or flood

But God can be funny
At a cocktail party when listening to a good God-themed joke, or
Or when the crazies say He hates us
And they get so red in the head you think they’re ‘bout to choke
God can be funny,
When told he’ll give you money if you just pray the right way
And when presented like a genie who does magic like Houdini
Or grants wishes like Jiminy Cricket and Santa Claus
God can be so hilarious
Ha ha
Ha ha

No one laughs at God in a hospital
No one laughs at God in a war
No one’s laughing at God
When they’ve lost all they’ve got
And they don’t know what for

No one laughs at God on the day they realize
That the last sight they’ll ever see is a pair of hateful eyes
No one’s laughing at God when they’re saying their goodbyes
But God can be funny
At a cocktail party when listening to a good God-themed joke, or
Or when the crazies say He hates us
And they get so red in the head you think they’re ‘bout to choke
God can be funny,
When told he’ll give you money if you just pray the right way
And when presented like a genie who does magic like Houdini
Or grants wishes like Jiminy Cricket and Santa Claus
God can be so hilarious

No one’s laughing at God in a war
No one’s laughing at God when they’re starving or freezing or so very poor

No one’s laughing at God
No one’s laughing at God
No one’s laughing at God
We’re all laughing with God

the PROS and CONS

Ever wondered what it would be like to live with your best friends? Well there are most definitely positives and negatives. We all LOVE living together, but it doesn't always work out that way.

The BAD side to living with your friends:
  • You work out each others annoying wee habits
  • People use your favourite cup and wonder why you get shitty.
  • Your body wash seems to go down awfully fast
  • Some people don't wash dishes properly.
  • People have different habits to you (ie when cooking) and it gets annoying!
  • Boys eat way more food than girls and its never fair!
  • Some people use their heaters when everyone else is going without to save power
  • When people go home and not tell you
The AWESOME parts about living with your friends:
  • There is always someone to talk to about anything
  • Someone is always there to procrastinate with
  • You never really get lonely`
  • You have permanent buddies to ride to school on the bus with
  • Learning to live with others
  • Everyone is there for you when you need them most
  • They always wanna see the same movies and watch the same tv programmes
  • Someone understands you and your POV
  • Your get to hang out with your best friends all the time
  • All the memories are generally happy
  • They're all you need to have a good time
  • A hug is never far way
  • They are like your second family
We have so much fun here. Sure everyone gets a little angry every so often, but hey, thats real, thats life, we would be worried if it was all sunshine and rainbows the whole time. How boring would that be? Variety is the spice of life right?

So here is to being young! to being independent! and to having amazing friends that will hold your hand, defend your honour, laugh with you, tease you, cry with you and just be there for you!

and lastly, in the words of a late great . .

"I get by with a little help from my friends"

A Few Notes From the Bottom of the Earth.

Here at the bottom of the earth, life is rather magical. Green forests and lush scenery, there is nothing better. The winter is upon us, however, which is bringing a chill to the air and sees us wrapping up warmer.

So.Here are the days of our lives (at the bottom of the earth).

University
Flatting
Four Students
No heater
Lots of assignments
Drinking
American Idol
Shortland Street
A cold and dreary town
No light bulb in my room
Living away from home
No TV remote
Cold Villa

So. Here is our story, from the dark depths of the world, from 'that island next to australia'.

And in the end, it's not the years in your life that count. It's the life in your years - Abraham Lincoln
